This tool is based on ontology EDAM (http://edamontology.org/) which allows the classification of bioinformatics software according to their scope, operation they perform, and the data used or produced. The tool takes into account the operation of the software.
By default, the list shows all the software catalog. The "EDAM Category" column gives you access to the EDAM category description via the BioPortal site. That site provides a browser (http://bioportal.bioontology.org/ontologies/47814?p=terms).
You can narrow the list by the various proposed filters. One filter is active at a time.
The first one allows you to search for software using a keyword. It is sought in the name and description of the software but also in the name and description of the the corresponding EDAM category.
The second allows you to filter the list using the EDAM ontology categories, ie through the processing performed by the software. When you select a category from the dropdown list, a new list appears with sub-categories. The detailed description of the category appears when you leave the mouse on the category. When only one choice is possible, it is automatically selected. The list displays the software belonging to the selected category but also those belonging to subcategories.
